1. Who we are

This website is Borteley's Authentic Ga Language Archive (also accessible at authenticga.co.uk), a personal project created and maintained by a UK-based individual. The site is a free, non-commercial archive dedicated to preserving and sharing the Ga language spoken in Ghana.

For any privacy-related questions, you can reach us via the Contribute page.

2. What data we collect and why

We collect and store the minimum data necessary to make the site work well for you.

3. Cookies

We use only essential cookies and localStorage. These are necessary for the site to function (e.g. remembering your saved phrases and listening history). We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party marketing cookies.

When you visit the site for the first time, a banner asks for your consent. You can choose to accept essential cookies or reject non-essential ones. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage for this site.

4. Third-party services

The site embeds or links to the following external services, each with their own privacy policies:

  • Substack — our blog posts and podcast episodes are fetched from borteleysauthenticga.substack.com. Substack's own Privacy Policy applies if you visit their platform.
  • TikTok — we display public comments from our TikTok page as testimonials. No TikTok tracking code is embedded on this site.
  • Spotify — the homepage embeds a Spotify podcast player. Spotify may set its own cookies when you interact with the player. See Spotify's Privacy Policy.

5. How long we keep your data

Data stored in your browser (localStorage) stays there until you clear it yourself — we have no access to it once it leaves your device. Contribution form submissions are kept for as long as is reasonably necessary to process and respond to them.

6. Your rights under UK GDPR

As a UK resident you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data.
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Object — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, where processing is based on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us via the Contribute page. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

7. Children's privacy

This site is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal data to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
